Paralegal

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking a highly skilled, detail oriented paralegal to join its team. This role supports attorneys handling complex civil and criminal appellate cases that shape statewide legal precedent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cite check briefs, motions, and other legal filings
  • Draft documents, legal pleadings, and correspondence
  • Assist with record preparation
  • File documents in state and federal courts
  • Maintain assigned electronic files 
  • Manage deadlines, case calendars, and document workflows

Qualifications

  • Strong editing, writing, and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with state and federal laws, cases, and rules, as well as state and federal electronic filing systems. 
  • Ability to manage multiple cases with precision and confidentiality
  • Commitment to public service and high quality legal work
  • Current paralegal or legal professional certification from an accredited program is preferred—but not required

Location

The duty station for this position is in Pierre.

Rate of Pay and Benefits

The rate of pay for this position starts at $25.00 or higher, depending on experience, qualifications, and responsibilities. The State of South Dakota has an exceptional benefit package including retirement, health insurance, and paid leave.
